Hi, my name is Jackson. I'm a senior film production major emphasizing in cinematography at Chapman University's Dodge College of Film and Media Arts. That's quite the mouthful, and while I am proud of that fact, it ultimately means nothing beyond the title. So here are some more things about me that I find matter more.
When I'm not filling the role of the director of photography, my passion is working on the camera team. Filmmaking has been, is, and always will be my passion, and I hope (and believe) that my hard work ethic proves that statement. Throughout my last four years at Dodge I have learned an immeasurable amount, not just from attending class, but from working hard and paying my dues on student sets as much as possible.
My passion for film lies beyond working below the line, as I am also a published film scholar. My philosophy is that studying film is a mandatory practice needed to hone one's craft, and I take that very seriously. I strongly believe that I have learned more about the theory of camera movement, lighting, and blocking from watching movies than I have attending 4 years at a top film school.
My cinematographic influences are: Dick Pope, Emmanuel Lubezki, Homayun Payvar, and Christopher Doyle.
Movies that inspire my work include: The Worst Person in the World, Taste of Cherry, First Reformed, A Brighter Summer Day, and High and Low.
If you've made it this far, it's likely that you are either interested in hiring me, or are just interested in scrolling through amateur cinematographer's websites. Assuming the prior to be true, I want to leave you with this:
I am well aware that the film industry is... oversaturated. What I feel I can offer that none else can is a hunger for work. I'm ready and willing to start paying my dues professionally in any capacity, especially if it means doing it on a film set. The art of filmmaking is my one true passion, and if there is anything in my power to help make a vision come to life, I'll see that it gets done.
